Demiurge: As I said, you managed to entertain me with this. I certainly wasn’t expecting you to use some of your old friend’s moves.

Shit, I thought... So he knows about THAT, too!

“You mentioned that would lead to a reward, right?”

Demiurge: I certainly did. But I can’t give you material items. It would be unfair to other players. Information, though? Why not? Again, though, that battle was a little bit too easy in the end, even for someone like you. As such, I’m not going to tell you the locations of any of the more powerful artifacts. Sorry :P

“Oh, thank you. Anything but artifacts,” I replied, shuddering a little bit as I recalled how I had acquired my mask.

Instead, I’ll tell you the approximate A.L. of those bandits.

As I waited for him to answer, I glanced at my own level.

Demiurge: The pawns were at 10, the leader was at 25.

Hm, I thought... Mine’s at 18. If it hadn’t been for my little zoo, I’d be dropping the soap in prison by now.

Demiurge: Anyway. I hope you’re happy with that. I’ll be keeping an eye on you. Have a fun game :3

“Ah, yes. Thank you.” I tried to add a little smiley to the end of my message, but somehow it didn’t look right.

Physical: you have suffered lacerations. None seem to be especially deep. They should heal.

I hadn’t even thought about that, to be honest.

Energetic: something is obviously wrong.

Psychological: your behavior is sometimes strange. You should see a psychologist.

Well, at least it was a piece of concrete advice this time.

With that, it was time to turn my attention back to the dilemma at hand. Should I abandon my loot, or forgo the element of surprise in future battles?

After thinking for a few more seconds, I gave the desiccated corpse in front of me an angry kick, then turned to head back to the village. It was time to finish what I had started.

During my trip home, I had little choice but to enjoy a pretty in-game sunset. I had stayed into the game’s evening once again — which, in this case, was decidedly to my advantage. With my Mr. Potato Head face craning up toward the sky, I almost missed the skyline of the village as it emerged from behind the hill. Bathed in the deep-red light of the setting sun, the settlement looked admirably peaceful and calm.

I started to hear screams, and the teenage girl with the braids came running out from inside the lone entrance into the village.

“Please, there’s no — “ Her hysterical wail suddenly got cut off, at the same time as her head.

I turned around and headed back into the forest.
